Even though Black History Month has come to an end, we should not stop honoring those who opened doors for so many of us. Mrs. Eunice W. Johnson founder of Ebony and Jet Magazine and Ebony Fashion Fair was an inspiration not only to the fashion industry, but to everyone who knew her. Mrs. Eunice W. Johnson along with many other visionaries of color should be honored every day not just Black History Month. Without the legendary fashion icon, many of us would not be where we are today…
So thank you, Mrs. Eunice W. Johnson…
Ebony and Macy’s acknowledged Mrs. Johnson for her accomplishments with an overwhelming turnout of supporters at the Los Angeles private VIP reception at Macy’s Beverly Center. Celebrities such as Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Sheryl Lee Ralph along with the new Chief Executive Officer of Ebony and Jet Magazine, Desiree Rogers and many others came out for the unveiling of the fashion retrospective and provided insight about Mrs. Johnson’s extraordinary life and her significant contributions to the beauty and fashion industries. Ebony Fashion Fair showcased such designer as Yves St. Laurent, Vivienne Westwood, Marc Bouwer and many more. Ebony Fashion Fair has toured over 180 cities and raised more than $55 million for scholarships.
Desiree Rogers was a true delight… She spoke about the new direction of Ebony and Jet Magazine and the unveiling of the new concept of the magazines. As she mingled among the crowd, she made sure she took a moment to speak with everyone and give some insight about Ebony and the possibility of continuing Mrs. Johnson’s legacy with the Ebony Fashion Fair fashion shows.
Desiree, it was truly a pleasure meeting you and congratulations on your new position as Chief Executive Officer of Ebony and Jet Magazine… Mrs. Johnson would be extremely proud of all your hard work in keeping her legacy alive.
